Privacy Policy
Effective September 30, 2026
LearnAhead provides student planning, course organization, notes, and AI study and wellbeing features on the website and mobile app. This policy explains the information LearnAhead handles and the choices available to you.
Information we collect
Referral links use a first-party cookie lasting up to 30 days to connect a new signup with the person who invited them. We record referral attribution, qualifying signups, and reward dates. Referrers see a qualifying referral count, not their friends’ names or workspace content. Hashed identifiers may be retained after deletion to prevent duplicate referral rewards or repeated free Plus trials.
- Account information: your name, email address, sign-in method, verification status, account creation date, and recent sign-in and activity times. Passwords are stored as one-way cryptographic hashes.
- Workspace content: courses and original syllabi, notes and embedded images, assignments, calendar feed links and events, previously imported calendar items, saved Study Space and Reflect conversations, completion status, account preferences, Getting Started progress, and Maya’s shared memories and recent conversation context.
- AI requests: messages, prompts, course material, account context, files and photos you attach, and audio and transcripts when you choose voice features.
- Support and billing information: feedback you send, subscription status, usage totals, and Stripe customer and subscription identifiers. LearnAhead does not store full payment-card numbers.
- Basic usage and security information: site visits, recent activity times, request and delivery status, and a random first-party visitor identifier. IP addresses may be used temporarily for rate limiting and security.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, synchronize each user’s workspace, provide requested AI features, enforce usage limits, manage subscriptions, deliver account emails, measure site activity, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and respond to support requests. Authorized administrators can view account status, activity times, and usage information for these operational purposes. LearnAhead does not sell personal information or use workspace content for targeted advertising.
AI, voice, and calendar processing
Content used for Maya, syllabus highlighting, or another AI feature is transmitted to OpenAI to generate the requested result. Maya is one AI assistant across Study Space and Reflect. Relevant account content—including calendar events, courses and original syllabi, notes, saved work, saved conversations, recent exchanges, and shared memories—may be sent to OpenAI to answer your request. Maya’s access to your workspace records is read-only.
Useful preferences and goals may be summarized into a shared memory log. Memory processing is instructed to retain sensitive wellbeing details as lasting memories only when you explicitly ask; AI processing can make mistakes. Review, edit, delete, or clear memories in Your account → Maya’s memory → Manage memories. Recent context is limited to 12 exchanges, used for up to 30 days, separately from saved conversations. Clearing shared memory also clears this recent context but does not delete saved chats, notes, or courses. Deleting a saved chat does not automatically erase information already summarized into shared memory; use the memory controls to remove it too.
The website and mobile app save Study Space and Reflect conversations to your account so you can reopen or delete them. Voice starts when you choose it and grant microphone permission. Live voice streams microphone audio to OpenAI and plays AI-generated speech; transcripts can become part of the saved conversation and shared context. LearnAhead does not save raw voice recordings as account files. Uploaded syllabi and images embedded in notes are saved with that content. Files attached to a study request are sent to OpenAI for that request. If you previously used calendar-image import, LearnAhead retains accepted events rather than the original calendar image.
Cookies and local storage
LearnAhead uses first-party cookies to keep you signed in, protect social sign-in, count visits without an advertising identifier, and attribute referrals. Some settings and features may use browser or device storage. Saved workspace content is associated with your signed-in account in LearnAhead’s database and is shared across the website and app when you use the same account. Blocking required cookies or storage may prevent parts of the service from working.
Service providers and disclosures
LearnAhead uses Render for application and database hosting, OpenAI for AI processing, Stripe for subscriptions and payments, Resend for transactional and support email delivery, Porkbun for the support mailbox and domain services, and Apple, Google or Microsoft when you choose social sign-in. Sign in with Apple supports a private relay email address. Apple sign-in tokens are encrypted on our server and used to disconnect Apple when you delete your account. Those providers receive only the information needed for their role and process it under their own terms and privacy policies. Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, or defend legal rights.
Calendar links and connected services
Calendar feed links are stored privately with your account and fetched by LearnAhead to display events. A feed link may contain a private access token, so do not share it publicly. LearnAhead is not operated by or affiliated with Canvas, Instructure, your school, Google, or Microsoft. Removing a connected calendar from LearnAhead does not alter the source calendar.
Retention and your choices
Account and workspace information is retained while your account is active. Verification and password-reset links expire automatically. Security, email-delivery, billing, and transaction records may be retained as reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, disputes, accounting, and legal obligations. Open your profile, then Your account, to use Download my data or Delete my account. Account deletion removes the account and its saved workspace from both the website and app; it does not delete records held independently by payment or email providers.
You can remove individual notes, courses, saved conversations, editable events, and shared memories using their controls. Synced feed events cannot be deleted individually in LearnAhead; they remain controlled by their source. For help removing a connected calendar or other information, email support@learnahead.org. An active paid Plus subscription must be canceled before account deletion; follow the billing status shown in Subscription → Manage billing.
Security
LearnAhead uses HTTPS, restricted session cookies, password hashing, access controls, account-isolated storage, request limits, and security headers. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Contact us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
Age requirement
LearnAhead is intended for people age 13 or older and is not directed to children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13. If local law requires permission from a parent or guardian for you to use an online service, you must have that permission.
Your privacy choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information. Use the controls in your account or email support@learnahead.org. We may need to verify that the request concerns your account.
Changes
We may update this policy as LearnAhead changes. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when appropriate for a material change.
