Connect your calendar
Copy the feed link, then bring it here.
For these steps, open your school’s Canvas website in a desktop browser. Use the Calendar Feed link from Canvas, rather than the address in your browser bar.
- 01
Find Calendar Feed in Canvas
Sign in to Canvas through your school. Open Calendar from the left-hand menu, then choose Calendar Feed beside the calendar.
- 02
Copy your personal feed URL
Copy the full link shown in the Calendar Feed popup. It is an iCalendar feed, usually ending in .ics. Treat that link as private: it gives access to the calendar information in your feed.
- 03
Connect it in LearnAhead
Create a free account and open Getting Started → Calendar → Connect calendar. Give the calendar a name, paste the feed URL, and select Connect calendar.
- 04
Review the imported deadlines
Check imported dates against Canvas, and confirm due times on the assignment page when the feed omits them. Select Open original in event details when the feed provides a link.
Need help finding the feed? See Instructure’s official Calendar Feed guide .
Keep the source in view
Keep deadlines in view.
Track your progress.
Connected calendar items stay tied to the original feed. LearnAhead preserves a due time when it is supplied, and keeps date-only items date-only.
- Refresh the feed: LearnAhead checks connected feeds when loading your calendar. If you just changed a deadline, wait at least five minutes and reload. Updates depend on what Canvas publishes in the feed.
- Track completion: Mark homework complete inside LearnAhead. This tracks your progress here and does not submit or complete work in Canvas.
- Add another feed: Open your account and choose Connect another calendar to bring in another supported calendar.
- Check the source: Keep Canvas and your syllabus as the references for assignments, changes, and course requirements.
Questions, answered
Common Canvas connection questions.
Do I need to give LearnAhead my Canvas password?
No. You sign in to Canvas through your school, copy your personal Calendar Feed link, and paste the feed into LearnAhead. Keep the feed URL private.
Why is an assignment missing from my calendar?
LearnAhead can only import the items Canvas includes in the feed. Check the assignment in Canvas and make sure its due date is published. Reload your calendar after a few minutes, and use a manual event for a deadline that is not present in the feed.
Does marking an assignment complete update Canvas?
No. Completion is tracked only in LearnAhead. Submit your work and check its status in Canvas as usual.
Can LearnAhead edit my Canvas assignment deadlines?
No. Connected feed items are read-only source events. Change an original assignment or deadline through Canvas where your role allows it; LearnAhead displays the information supplied by the feed.
What if my feed will not connect?
Check that you copied the complete Calendar Feed URL from the popup, rather than a Canvas webpage URL. The feed must be accessible without a separate sign-in. If your school restricts it, contact your school’s Canvas support. Getting Started needs a supported calendar feed; email support@learnahead.org if you are unable to complete that step.
LearnAhead is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instructure or Canvas. Calendar availability and imported details depend on your school and the content of your feed.
